"Aromas of red berries, plums, rose petals, sweet spices and forest floor introduce the 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless wine that's layered and concentrated, with a vibrant core of fruit and a long, penetrating finish." The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques ler Cru has a refined bouquet that unfolds in the glass, with delineated raspberry and cranberry fruit and a hint of Earl Grey in the background. The oak is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, rounded, dense and weighty for a Premier Cru, although it doesn't quite have the tension or nuance of the best. The finish feels a little heavy-handed with the oak, although that should be subsumed with time. It misses a bit of flair, hence my lower score, but it should improve with bottle age, hence the plus sign. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
