The Paitin 2020 Barbaresco Faset (with only 3,045 bottles made) shows noticeable power and concentration that reflects the sunny warmth and high temperatures of this vintage. Vineyards in Barbaresco fared well, offering darker wines for sure, but with intact perfumes that are not weighed down by over-ripeness. Ultimately, the vintage character comes off as more accessible, maybe a little softer and more fruit-forward. Black cherry segues to earth, rust and licorice.

A fruity version, boasting cherry, raspberry and strawberry flavors. Light on its feet, picking up accents of earth, mint and cola. Firms up on the finish, with powdery tannins. Best from 2026 through 2042. 310 cases made.

The 2020 Barbaresco Faset lifts with a fruity nose of fresh strawberries, pressed roses, and sweet floral and herbal notes. One the palate, it offers ripe, savory tannins with a note of tea leaf and a slightly gamey, earthy texture and feel on the palate, with a bit of grip. Drink over the next 10-12 years.

The 2020 Barbaresco Faset is a very pretty, elegant wine. Crushed flowers, orange peel, cinnamon, pine, mint and red berry fruit are all very nicely delineated in this mid-weight, refreshing Barbaresco from Paitin. All the elements are very nicely balanced. Gracious and wonderfully elegant, the 2020 is already drinking beautifully.
